Team 1 was mobilized September 2, 2004 by
FEMA and pre staged in Atlanta, Georgia awaiting Hurricane Frances. Florida
was still recovering from Hurricane Charlie. Frances path would cross
the state of Florida. Great damage to the state was predicted. As Frances
approached the state and made landfall the storm weakened and stalled
taking several days to pass. September 6th Team 1 was moved to Homestead,
Florida to aid the southern portion of the state around West Palm Beach.
September 9th a new Hurricane "Ivan" was growing in intensity
and predicted to make landfall in a few days. We aided FEMA in storage
of supplies and then were sent back to Georgia and sagged for a possible
new assignment when Ivan passed. The team was then sent to Orlando Florida
to help with a special care center that was being set up at Orlando's
Convention Center. |
