Gap Fire Information Update #5

(final update)

Location:  Emigrant & Yuba Gaps along Interstate 80

Acreage: 2462 acres           100%  Contained:  8/16/01            Expected Control: 8/20/01  6:00 pm

Update:

The fire is fully contained and is in mopup status. A cold front is passing through today, bringing breezy conditions that could potentially lead to increased fire activity, and line crews are working to prevent that possibility. Demobilization of crews continue, either for return to their home units or reassignment on other fires throughout the west.

Recreation:

Campers and deer hunters (archery) are reminded that throughout the Tahoe National Forest, campfires are ONLY allowed in designated campsites.  Please be fire safe!

Closed campgrounds in the fire area:

North Fork, Tunnel Mills, Lodgepole

Open recreation sites near the fire:

Silvertip picnic area, Snowflower campground

Alternate nearby campgrounds: Indian Springs, Hampshire Rocks (east of the fire area on Interstate 80), Spaulding, Bowman road campgrounds (north of the fire area in the Highway 20 corridor). Contact the Forest Headquarters at 530-265-4531 or Big Bend Visitor Center at 530-426-3609 for details.

Rehabilitation:

The rehabilitation of the fire is continuing as the Suppression Rehab Team assesses the fire for any damage from the fire suppression activities.  This is the first of three rehabilitation efforts that will occur on the fire.

Evacuations:

No evacuations are in effect.
